PITTSBURGH is the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Penguins

The STEELERS won the Super Bowls in 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979 and 2005.

Coming into the 2005 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had a solid squad that only grew stronger as the season progressed.  Behind Joey Porter's 10.5 sacks, "Big Ben" Roethlisberger's 98.6 passer rating and Jerome Bettis' inspirational leadership, the Steelers charged into the playoffs riding a 4-game winning streak.  Characterized by their fearsome defense and versatile offense, their performance in 2005 was truly memorable.

In the playoffs, Pittsburgh was simply unstoppable.  The Steelers marched to a 31-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the first game of a postseason played entirely on the road.  Next, against Peyton Manning and the heavily-favored Indianapolis Colts, Roethlisberger made the game-saving tackle to preserve the Steelers' lead in the waning moments of a 21-18 triumph.  The Steelers' next stop was Denver, where they beat the Broncos 34-17 in the AFC Championship game.  Finally, they defeated the Seattle Seahawks in Detroit to win their fifth Super Bowl, joining the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers as the only teams in NFL history with 5 Super Bowl titles.

Some of the most memorable moments in football history -

1972 "Immaculate Reception" Terry Bradshaw & Franco Harris.

Records set or tied in the 2006 Super Bowl:

Longest run from scrimmage — 75 yards, Willie Parker.

Youngest winning starter at QB — 23 years, 340 days, Ben Roethlisberger.

There wasn't a single spectacular player for the Steelers in Super Bowl XL. Hines Ward was as good a choice as any for the Most Valuable Player award, but this was a victory that belonged to the entire Pittsburgh team.
